Just Do Your Best

So here we are with Thanksgiving just hours away and we are reminded by “everyone” to be thankful and enjoy our families and friends. Hopefully that will be the case for you, yet I offer a couple of additional thoughts to consider.

One – hopefully you have a habit of thankfulness and gratitude more than once a year. Almost every night for more than 15 years I have written in a journal 3 – 5 things about each day for which I am grateful. Simple things such as: phone update with my sister; dinner with all my children and grandchildren; going to a special event with my best friend; clean sheets; warm home that safe; flowers that have bloomed; great work with clients and much, much more.

To me thankfulness is very close to being grateful, so I could actually call my journal a Thankful Journal.

I think all of us have so much for which we can be thankful this year! You may have experienced a few struggles and challenges which is a great time to think about all the great things that are going right in your life.

Two – not everyone has a wonderful relationship with their family and holiday gatherings can be brutal. It tends to bring out the best and the worst in everyone! So I offer a few suggestions:

1) B*R*E*A*T*H*E deeply and often.
2) Focus on being kind – to yourself as well.
3) Remember that everyone else is probably feeling the same way.
4) Do a few things differently – play board games, trivia, blow bubbles – yes, even the adults need to do this.
5) Share the best thing someone else did for you within the last year.
6) Repeat often – “I am who I am and I allow others to be who they are.” (shared from my friend Lauren McLaughlin’s book, Go to ELF, Connecting with the Eternal Life Force)

Hopefully these thoughts will resonate with you and help you enjoy a great Thanksgiving and the rest of our holiday season!
